The mourning dove is a member of the mountain game and family pigeon. This is one of the most common and widespread birds in North America and one of the game birds in the United States. Doves inhabit a variety of habitats and are considered fertile breeders, allowing the species to keep the numbers down. Theircan be used both in open and semi-open areas including meadows, pastures, and to find sparsely wooded. Doves do not usually live in dense forest areas or wetlands, and are well suited for human occupation.

Mourning doves are birds of medium size and are usually light gray brown. They have small bills, black, slender body, broad elliptical wings, and a round head.
